My story

Welcome to About BPD, a mental health website dedicated to helping people understand Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). Whether you’re living with BPD or supporting someone who is, you’ll find guidance to help you and your loved ones.

BPD is often misunderstood, and finding clear information about it can be difficult. The goal of this website is to provide easy-to-read articles that make BPD easier to understand.

By raising awareness, we can break down stigma and create a space where people can learn and feel supported.

The website cover a range of topics about borderline personality disorder including:

Of course, you might not know anything about the condition. So why not start at the beginning – what is BPD?

How it all began

Hi, my name’s Andrew and I’m the editor of About BPD.

For years, I struggled with my mental health. It started when I lived abroad as a child. I experienced depression, anxiety, impulsive behaviour and relationship problems from an early age, which helped shape the problems I’ve had later in life.

These difficulties lingered into adulthood and gradually intensified by my mid-twenties. I began coping in unhealthy ways, seeking distractions from overwhelming thoughts and emotions. At times, I found myself in risky situations, though I was fortunate they didn’t lead to more serious consequences.

Finally, in September 2022, I was diagnosed with mixed anxiety-depressive disorder with the impulsive BPD subtype. It was a relief to have a diagnosis, but I soon realised that understanding BPD wasn’t easy.

Many resources were hard to follow and didn’t connect with my experiences. I found it challenging to understand my experiences because there was such limited information, and some of that information was incorrect or outdated.

That’s why I decided to start About BPD. I wanted to create a blog that explains BPD in simple terms. It’s not just for those with BPD, but for family, friends, partners and employers too. I know how difficult it can be to support someone with BPD, and I wanted to offer a place where both people with BPD and their supporters can find helpful resources.

Through this website, I hope to share what I’ve learned, provide support and raise awareness about BPD. Whether you’re looking for advice or just want to understand BPD better, we’re here to help. Our goal is to make sure you don’t feel alone in this journey.

I’m still on my journey of self-discovery. While I’ve come to understand my condition better, every day is a school day. I take each day as it comes but each step I take is a step towards living a better, more fulfilled life.
