My story

How it all began

Hi, my name’s Andrew, and I’m the editor of About BPD.

For years, I struggled with my mental health. It started when I lived abroad as a child. I experienced depression, anxiety, impulsive behaviour and relationship problems from an early age, which helped shape the problems I’ve had later in life.

These difficulties lingered into adulthood and gradually intensified by my mid-twenties. I began coping in unhealthy ways, seeking distractions from overwhelming thoughts and emotions. At times, I found myself in risky situations, though I was fortunate they didn’t lead to more serious consequences.

Finally, in September 2022, I was diagnosed with mixed anxiety-depressive disorder with traits of the impulsive BPD subtype. It was a relief to have a diagnosis, but I soon realised that understanding BPD and BPD traits wasn’t easy. I found many of the resources to be clinical without offering practical advice for living with and managing the condition.
